Overview

MicroElectrodeDevices.com is dedicated to serving new clients as well as former clients of Qwane Biosciences SA, a Swiss company which ceased its operations in 2019 and closed in 2020.

History

The development and manufacturing of MEA (MicroElectrode Array) biochips started in the 1990s. MEA biochips compatible with the MEA60 format of MultiChannelSystems MCS also became commercially available via Ayanda Biosystems SA (2001-2011), Lausanne, Switzerland.

In 2001, we were the first company to introduce on the market the 3D tip-shaped MEA biochips specially adapted for acute experiments on brain slices and were the sole supplier of such MEA biochips for more than a decade.

In 2005, we were the company to introduce on the market the first multiwell MEA biochips which are today mainly replaced by new commercial MEA products based on well plates.

In 2011, the MEA business was transferred to a new spin-off company, Qwane Biosciences SA (2011-2020), Lausanne, Switzerland, where products were optimized and new manufacturing technologies were added to the portfolio. MEA products were supplied to Qwane Biosciences customers until the company was forced to downsize and close its doors.

A new chapter began with the creation of a new legal entity, MicroElectrodeDevices MED sàrl, in August 2024.
