Overview

MicroElectrodeDevices.com is dedicated to serving former clients of Qwane Biosciences SA, a Swiss company which ceased operations in 2019 and closed in 2020, as well as new clients. This site is managed by Dr Marc Heuschkel, former CEO of Qwane Biosciences SA.

MicroElectrodeDevices has access to the EPFL-CMi microfabrication facility at the Swiss Federal Institue of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland for product development and manufacturing. Our products are currently assembled and finalized in the facilities of the Tissue Engineering Laboratory of the Geneva School of Engineers (HES-SO, HEPIA).

History

The development and manufacture of Micro Electrode Arrays (MEA) devices or biochips began in the late 90s during the doctoral work of Dr Marc Heuschkel and it has become available to researchers on the market since 2001 through the company Ayanda Biosystems SA (2001-2011), Lausanne, Switzerland.

In 2005, we were the first company to introduce multi-well MEA biochips to the market, which today are mostly replaced by new commercial well-plate MEA products.

In 2011, the MEA business was transferred to a new spin-off company, Qwane Biosciences SA (2011-2020), Lausanne, Switzerland, where current products were optimized and new manufacturing technologies were added to our portfolio. MEA products were provided to Qwane Biosciences customers until the company had to scale down and eventually shut down.
